Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has tested positive for the novel coronavirus. Pradhan has been admitted to Medanta Hospital in Haryana’s Gurugram (earlier Gurgaon) where he is being treated for the infection.

Minister for Petroleum & Natural Gas and Steel, Dharmendra Pradhan is undergoing treatment at the same private hospital where Union Home Minister Amit Shah is being treated for Covid-19. It is important to note that Pradhan was not part of the July 29 Union Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and attended by top ministers, including Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, and Nirmala Sitharaman among others.

After India Today broke the story of Dharmendra Pradhan seeking treatment for Covid-19 at Medanta, the Union Minister took to Twitter to make the announcement himself. In a tweet on Tuesday, Pradhan said, “After noticing Covid-19 symptoms, I got myself tested and my result is positive. On doctors’ advice, I have shifted to the hospital and I am healthy.”

Responding to his tweet, Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan said, “Dear Pradhan Ji.. Praying for your quick recovery. Regards”

Dharmendra Pradhan, the 51-year-old Union Minister is the second Union Minister in India to have tested positive for Covid-19. Others include Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Karnataka CM BS Yediyurappa and former Karnataka CM Siddharamaiah. Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit has also been diagnosed with the infection and is being treated at the privately-owned Kauvery Hospital.

Other political leaders who have recovered after being treated for Covid-19 include Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain, Tamil Nadu’s Electricity Minister P Thangamani and Punjab Rural Development Minister Tript Singh Bajwa and several ministers in the Maharashtra cabinet among others.
