West Ham have pulled the plug on a pre-season friendly scheduled for this weekend against Ipswich after a member of their backroom staff was tested positive for coronavirus.

The Sun claim the Hammers development squad were due to face the League One side on Sunday as preparations turn towards the new season, but that is now not going to be the case.

A staff member at the club’s academy was diagnosed with COVID-19 after a routine screening, with the club individually contacting all players and parents affected to notify them of the latest developments.

A West Ham spokesperson told the same publication: “We can confirm that a member of our backroom staff within the Academy has tested positive for COVID-19

“The individual, whose identity will remain private due to medical confidentiality, is asymptomatic and currently self-isolating in line with guidance.”

Meanwhile, West Ham have yet to receive an offer from Chelsea for their former academy player Declan Rice.
